Deep Cryogenic Treatment is a one-time permanent treatment that toughens
most ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Examples would be metals, metallic
alloys, carbides, aluminium, bronze and brass to name but a few. Unlike a
surface treatment, Deep Cryogenic Treatment toughens the material right through
to the core. In addition to increased wear, impact and fatigue resistance,
materials are relieved of most residual stresses. Aluminium with its high
surface residual stress responds incredibly well to the process becoming very
stable dimensionally, and standing up to the most demanding
machining.![]()
Increased hardness and resistance to wear
Increased toughness, fatigue and impact resistance
Transforms the retained soft austenite to the harder martensite
Decreases materials residual stresses
Creates a denser molecular structure, resulting in a larger contact surface area that reduces friction, heat and wear
Deep cryogenics is compatible with other treatments ( TiN, Chrome, Teflon, etc)
Does not cause dimensional changes
Low
cost one-time permanent treatment that is environmentally
friendly
